Will you believe if I say this nook on your left side was once a media nook with old fashioned media built-ins and wires. Well, take a look at the picture on the right!

When my client Unnati Shah wanted to create a kid space in the living/dining room right at the main entrance, I was terrified. We don't want those tiny lego pieces and squeaky toys on the floor as soon as you or your guests enter your home.

When I saw the media nook in the family room, I saw an opportunity! That nook had no scope as my client planned to mount the TV on the wall. So it was all mine:)

We created this magnificent reading nook (my client now calls this the art piece of her living room) for her children who loves reading. We envisioned this space with lots of storage, lighting and comfortable enough to inspire anyone in the house to jump on it and flip a page or two.

"The best!!! It's the most used spot in the house!" - Unnati Shah, Mulberri House client

My goal in designing is always been identifying potential in any space and converting it to a meaningful space for my clients.

How do you find a nook in your house?

# Find the objective

You need to determine why you need a nook space before you find a space. With everyone working from home, people may just need a nice secluded office nook, or reading nook, or nook to store books or artifacts, nook for your family pictures, and so on.

# Identify the space

There is always a corner space in the house that is been neglected because it is hard to furnish or it is hardly used. Using every part of the house meaningfully should be your objective, don't just add a nook if the house is already crowded.

# Design the nook

FURNITURE: Identify the must have furniture for the nook, for example, if you are designing an office space, find the perfect desk and chair that fits the nook first.

LIGHTING: Lighting is very important in the nook space because nooks are generally in a corner with low lighting. Beautiful task lights are my favorite for nook designs. Wall Sconces or picture light sconces will look good for galleries.

STORAGE: If it is office or a reading nook, find suitable shelving and storage baskets and bins that are easy on the eyes.

If it is a picture gallery nook, ensure you have planned the picture frame alignment, measured the frame sizes before ordering. Don't leave the floor empty under the gallery. Try adding a bench, console table or create a seating area to complete the look.

DECOR: Keep the space minimalistic in nook spaces. These nooks intention is to provide a sense of calmness from the rest of the house so that you can focus. I always add some greens or a vase of flowers or eucylyptus. Fresh flower aroma is always inviting. The more you drawn to the space, more productive and focus you can be!

I hope you find a perfect nook in your house to create an amazing and meaningful space after reading this article!

Most importantly, make sure the space is comfortable and is inviting. Adding greenery, or some beautiful flowers or eucalyptus in a vase draws you more to the space and you are sure to use the space efficiently.
